AN ANTIQUE ENGLISH GEORGE III PERIOD BREAKFRONT BOOKCASE
circa 1780

A SUPERB quality English George III period breakfront bookcase of small proportions, being executed in beautifully figured and faded mahogany, the arched pediment centred by an applied carved patera surmounted by a pendant swag of garrya husks, the pediment surmounting a carved and fluted cornice, the flutings being interspersed with carved and moulded roundels, the cornice above two pairs of glazed doors, the doors being inset with half oval and lozenge shaped moulded astragal glazing bars, the base having one long central drawer and two short flanking drawers in the frieze, these drawers surmounting cupboard doors, the doors being inset with figured mahogany panels and enclosing a central cupboard and two smaller side cupboards, the bookcase being supported on a shaped, moulded plinth.

Height 97 ¾in (2.48m). Width 79in (1.75m). Depth 20 ¼in (51.5cm).
