A PAIR OF ANTIQUE ENGLISH GEORGE III PERIOD SIDE CHAIRS
circa 1765

An extremely fine quality PAIR of English George III period side or 'Saloon' chairs, with shaped stuffed backs and 'stuff-over' seats, the chairs supported on square, moulded mahogany front legs and mahogany 'kick-out' back legs, the front legs being decorated with the VERY UNUSUAL feature of Chinese fret-work and bell-flowers, this decoration being in BOXWOOD, the legs being joined by the original carved, fretted and 'blind-fretted' cross-stretchers, the legs at the tops still retaining the original carved mahogany C-scroll corner brackets.

Height (of back) 38 1/2in (98cm). Height (of seat) 18in (46cm).
Width (of seat) 23in (59cm). Depth (of seat) 18in (46cm).
