A HIGHLY IMPORTANT AND EXTREMELY RARE ANTIQUE ENGLISH EARLY REGENCY PERIOD CIRCULAR LIBRARY TABLE
from the workshops of JOHN McLEAN

circa 1806

A HIGHLY important English early Regency period circular library table executed in figured and faded rosewood, the revolving crossbanded leather top with boxwood stringing having a reeded gilt-brass edge moulding, the frieze fitted with two short drawers and two wedge-shaped drawers, one of these being fitted for writing implements, also four dummy drawers, all drawers having the original gilded brass ‘tongue and dart’ mouldings, the original gilded brass embossed lion mask handles, the frieze interspersed with inset rectangular panels of gilt brass trophy mounts, being satyr masks surmounting musical instruments, the base of the frieze having a smaller gilt brass circular banding, the top being supported on a turned central column, the column grained to simulate rosewood, the three elegantly outward-sweeping legs having reeded gilt-brass mouldings and terminating in the original gilt-brass box castors, the table emanating from the workshops of the celebrated London cabinet maker JOHN McLEAN.
