AN ANTIQUE ENGLISH ADAM PERIOD WALL MIRROR
circa 1770

An important English carved wood and gilded wall mirror of important proportions, the design in the manner of Robert Adam, the rectangular frame being fluted and interspersed with circular moulded roundels, each corner of the frame having a circular carved ‘leaf motif’ patera, the mirror being surmounted by a magnificently carved classical urn, the urn with an anthemion cresting and being draped by swags of garrya husks, these husks connecting with the circular corner paterae and then cascading down each side, the base of the mirror being centred by a classical skull adorned with similar garrya swags.

Overall height 73in (185.5cm). Overall width 39in (99cm).
