AN IMPORTANT ANTIQUE CHINESE POT-POURRI VASE
last quarter 18th century
Mounts, circa 1805, by Benjamin Vulliamy (1747-1811)

A charming and unusual ormolu mounted pot-pourri vase, the porcelain being Chinese from the mid-eighteenth century, the chocolate ground splashed with green leaves and flowers.

The beautifully designed lily of the valley flowers on the lid are a symbol of humility and their fragrance is often associated with love.

The mounts still retaining the original mercury gilding and being of English origin are almost certainly the work of Benjamin Vulliamy.

Maximum height7 7/8in (20cm). Maximum width 7 1/8in (18.5cm).
