A RARE SET OF ANTIQUE HAND COLOURED ENGRAVINGS
French, circa 1795

A most unusual set of twenty-four French original engravings carried out at the time of the French revolution. The subjects all being associated with the Age of Enlightenment.

When reframed we were able to save the original labels that were hidden at the time. the prints were exhibited and stored by the Drouhin family who were editors and also owned a store and shop premises.

From recent research into the Drouhin family we know that they played a serious part in the way of thinking during the French Revolution.  The inscriptions that we discovered read: “A Paris, chez Drouhin, propriétaire des antiquités nationales, rue Christine, No. 2," and "A Paris chez Marie François Drouhin, editeur, rue de Vaugirand, No. 1 enface du Jardin des Carmes.”
